About the Artist, Peggy H. Davis

I draw inspiration from traditional texts, medieval manuscripts, folk art and graphic design for my varied work, which celebrates the written word and wisdom, Jewish rituals and ceremonies. I create commissioned work and sell prints and original art in my studio/gallery, my Etsy shop, and at The Color Wheel in Shelburne Falls, MA. I am always ready to work on new projects, meeting with clients in person or by mail/e-mail. I use watercolor, papercutting, colored pencil, pastel, collage and other media in my work.

My introduction to Hebrew calligraphy was in Jerusalem; I later studied with the master calligrapher Ismar David in New York. When I came to Massachusetts I was fortunate to study English calligraphy and techniques with Suzanne Moore. I've studied with many teachers of English calligraphy over the years.

A friend brought me some upholstery scraps one day and now a portion of my time is devoted to making upcycled items from worn clothes and cloth scraps, embellished with embroidery and other details.

I began lettering in 1979 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and moved to Massachusetts in 1988. My studio/gallery is in an old farmhouse in the rural town of Colrain, where customers are welcome to visit.

Ganeydn (Garden of Eden) Gallery

We normally welcome guests to our studio/gallery during Crafts of Colrain and throughout the year. Due to COVID19, our gallery/studio of calligraphic, fiber and photographic work may be visited only by appointment, with regard to current health regulations.

Peggy and Joe welcome inquiries by phone, 413-624-3204 or Facetime, 413-230-9651 (arrange this by phone or e-mail–phd@ganeydn.com). You can have a personal tour using Facetime, see things in more detail and see items that aren't shown on-line.

I've completed commissions for calligraphic work using these means of communication for many years, so don't hesitate to call with an idea.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/PegathusDesign will take you to Peggy's Etsy shop. You'll find calligraphic work, vintage clothing and other items, jewelry made from art papers, beads, and more, art supplies and books, Judaica of various kinds. I upcycle, creating useful things from old jeans and other fabric, which you'll find in this shop.

If you see discrepancies in pricing between the shop and the web site, that is because something is offered in a different format or that the shop price includes shipping and the web site doesn't. Please ask if you have any questions.

Peggy is part of the Crafts of Colrain Studio Tour held in the fall. Check the website https://www.craftsofcolran.com for updated information this summer, as we are watching the developments regarding COVID19.

Here I am modelling the ruana and socks I love to wear from Moonshine Design, another Crafts of Colrain studio, www.keldaby.com.
